About
François began his undergraduate studies in 1999 with a specialised B.Sc. program in anthropology at the University of Montreal, with a special study of archaeology. He found field work, life in the forest and his first true contacts with native aboriginal peoples of northern Quebec (Canada) very inspiring. In 2006, after completion of an M.Sc. thesis about the Native American ceramics found at Lake Abitibi (Western Quebec) and after various work experience placements in private and public archaeology organisations, he was offered work with the Cree people of James Bay (North-western Quebec). The project with the Cree involved recording of oral history with elders and archaeological investigations on sites covering the earliest period of human occupation to the present. François found this unique work experience very interesting, and was fascinated by the contact he had with the elders. At the end of this project he decided to begin PhD studies on a subject yet unexplored, which is the changing way of life of the Cree during the 20th century.
